Kihei Community Association's Priorities 2026

• Shaping the Future of South Maui
  South Maui is growing, and we advocate for smart growth - supporting efforts to make Kihei a walkable, bikeable community with sidewalk and bikeway connectivity throughout, especially to all our schools including the new Kūlanihāko‘i High School. Supporting the implementation of the revised South Maui Community Plan and the values it espouses. Working with developers and the government to provide the resources we need for a thriving community.
• Fire Prevention
  Working with agencies, landowners, and the community to continue to improve Fire Prevention and Mitigation resources for South Maui – more firebreaks and greenbelts to protect our residents, another road for emergency egress, improved evacuation planning and more.
• Flooding Mitigation & Ecological Restoration
  Working with Public Works, upcountry landowners, as well as flood control and wetlands experts to reduce the risk of flooding in South Maui with retention basins, gulch maintenance and revegetation. Protecting and restoring our wetlands and other natural resources is also a top priority.
• More Roads & Infrastructure
  With over 7000 new homes in the pipeline for South Maui, we must have more roads and water. We need the entire North-South Collector Road completed from Kanani to North Kihei Road; we support a Kihei Mauka Collector Road mauka of the high school from Kanani to Veterans Highway; and we need to widen the Pi'ilani Hwy south of Kilohana.
• Wastewater Initiatives For Healthy Reefs and a Clean Ocean
  Untreated sewage is killing our reefs and polluting our beach water. We are supporting efforts to speed the replacement of cesspools in Maui Meadows with clean water alternatives and advocating for identification and treatment of pollution from failing pipes at major hotels and condo developments.
