County Council decides to not decide today on some of the major community concerns
Oxybenzone in sunscreen; employment control of Councilor's staff; firing Director Taylor and sand mining moratorium all for another day 12/4/17 #kihei We ask understanding that our volunteer time is limited, but we do our best to keep the community informed, so this...

Council’s Agenda 12/2/2017 Creates Perfect Storm for Community Concern
NUMEROUS “HOT BUTTON” ITEMS INDUCED NEARLY 100 TO TESTIFY 12/2/17 #kihei Occasionally we note a large turn out at a government meeting because of an issue of much community concern. But when an agenda of over 50 items has perhaps a half dozen such items for a single...

Kihei Wellness back here Wednesday! Council’s LUC meeting continues day after site visit, but no conclusion
Extensive public input at site supplemented in chambers with none in favor of zoning change 12/8/17 UPDATE This Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 this project is back seeking Change of Zoning in Council chambers. You chance to voice (or write) you opinion...

Council’s Planning Committee addresses two of three items Thursday morning
Ironic situation as far as reliable meeting participation 11/30/17 #kihei Contained in the first item, PC-5, was a proposal concerning absences by an unpaid volunteer CPAC member from future advisory committee meetings. We expect most agree that reliable participation...

SKR CLOSED FROM OHUKAI TO KAONOULU FOR TWO WATER METERS THIS MORNING
11/29/17 #kihei It seems there was no other choice for the County Administration’s Water Department but to close all traffic in both directions this morning to dig a trench across the entire roadway for installation of two water meters just South of Ohukai Rd. All...

Roundabouts do not stop functioning even there is no electricity
11/26/17 #kihei This morning when traffic signals stopped functioning, MPD stepped up for traffic control, here in North Kihei at the corner of Ohukai Road and Pi'ilani (no name change for this one yet, right?). If this had to happen, Sunday morning may an...

Kihei Community Association's Priorities 2025
- Shaping the Future of South Maui
South Maui is growing, and we advocate for smart growth - supporting efforts to make Kihei a walkable, bikeable community with sidewalk and bikeway connectivity throughout, especially to all our schools including the new Kūlanihāko‘i High School. Supporting the implementation of the revised South Maui Community Plan and the values it espouses. Working with developers and the government to provide the resources we need for a thriving community. - Fire Prevention
Working with agencies, landowners, and the community to continue to improve Fire Prevention and Mitigation resources for South Maui – more firebreaks and greenbelts to protect our residents, another road for emergency egress, improved evacuation planning and more. - Flooding Mitigation & Ecological Restoration
Working with Public Works, upcountry landowners, as well as flood control and wetlands experts to reduce the risk of flooding in South Maui with retention basins, gulch maintenance and revegetation. Protecting and restoring our wetlands and other natural resources is also a top priority. - More Roads & Infrastructure
With over 7000 new homes in the pipeline for South Maui, we must have more roads and water. We need the entire North-South Collector Road completed from Kanani to North Kihei Road; we support a Kihei Mauka Collector Road mauka of the high school from Kanani to Veterans Highway; and we need to widen the Pi'ilani Hwy south of Kilohana. - Wastewater Initiatives For Healthy Reefs and a Clean Ocean
Untreated sewage is killing our reefs and polluting our beach water. We are supporting efforts to speed the replacement of cesspools in Maui Meadows with clean water alternatives and advocating for identification and treatment of pollution from failing pipes at major hotels and condo developments.
