5/2/24 #kihei
For over a decade, KCA has had an ongoing collection of nutritious, non-perishable food products at every membership meeting (open to the community) for the Maui Food Bank(MFB). We periodically check in with MFB on the community situation and continuously hear that about 10% of Maui keiki and kupuna at times go to bed hungry. That fluctuates a bit, but had been fairly consistent for years. However last Month MFB reported that since last August the need has risen 65 %!! (SEE https://www.kitv.com/news/maui-food-bank-sees-surge-in-need-among-community-members-after-wildfires/article_55aed6be-fd0a-11ee-9d5c-7321ecdee7f1.html)
How much is donated at our meetings varies as well. Our March meeting had an outstanding quantity, and we hope that is reflected on May 21, so we ask that you plan to gather up some wholesome cans of food to drop off at our welcome desk at the Pro Arts Playhouse that evening.
