Last evening  (9/24/12) at the Whale Sanctuary, Cheryl Woodley, a NOAA research microbiologist offered a PowerPoint presentation explaining numerous sources of pollution affecting near shore water quality, and advising about a research program about to take place on Maui. Much of the first half concentrated on research for other parts of the world, with emphasis of The Virgin Island St Johns in the Caribbean , offering a strong indication that sun screen was a major source of pollution destroying their coral reefs. The second portion concentrating on Maui, while explaining this upcoming study, funded by a blend of federal and state agencies, is set to commence today.
