While the Kihei “dog people” seemingly have no interest in a regulated off leash dog park, the Parks Department is proceeding with plans to establish one at Keopuilani Park in Kahului to open in 2012. Wailea has had a small private one for years, and Kihei has a few unauthorized ones, but that seems to be the extent of South Maui’s interest.
Sue Kaing and Karla Peters offered a public presention at the Kahului Communuity Center on Nov 9 to outline the plan for the public, attended by about 25 intrested people, and one obedient dog. If you want more information about this park, or want one developed in Kihei, contact Sue at 875-1647.

Yes the dog park is open and seems to please all who use it, whether on two or four legs. We have made numerous vists, and while it could use some amenities, like some shade trees and more benches, the logical division for dogs by size works well
