Council’s Land Use Committee votes 7-2 for project atop Kaiwahine expected to start construction this year
2/14/18 #kihei
Imagine a brand new 2 bedroom/2 bath apartment in Kihei for less than $400 per month. How long ago would that have occurred? 1990? How about this year?
This afternoon the Land Use Committee voted to move this project onto full Council where continued approval is expected by next month
Ikaika Ohana, a non profit affordable housing entity doing business in CA & HI took on their first Maui County project resurrecting a stumbling proposed project going back over six years, converting it to a 100% truly affordable priced 140 unit complex. KCA had met with a representative back on Jan 15 at the KCA office – SEE https://gokihei.org/environment/kawaihine-village-apartment-project – and then yesterday with CEO Doug Bigley and Director Randy Hiu before heading to the Council Chambers today.
KCA was the only organization to testify (imagine that!!) at the Council Chambers on this item, proclaiming our community’s dire need for affordable rental homes in South Maui.
