Explore Historic Gulch- Potential Walking Path for New Kihei High School

Event date: Saturday Feb 8    3-5:30 pm

Public and policy makers are invited to walk along the historic Kulanihakoi gulch that borders the future Kihei High School site. Walkers can meet at 3pm Saturday February 8 at the Betsill Bros. office parking lot at the end  of Kenolio St. (off Kaonoulu St.) in Kihei. Local historical researchers Lucienne de Naie and Daniel Kanahele and members of kama’aina families will be invited to offer a historical perspective during the walk.

Participants are advised to wear study shoes as terrain includes rocky areas and bring drinking water and cameras for the beautiful views. “This gulch is designated as a mauka-makai trail in the South Maui Park and Open Space Master Plan,” former South Maui Representative Joe Bertram III explained. “It could offer a safe route for future students of Kihei High School to walk to school and cut down on traffic congestion.

The walk is sponsored by PATH Maui and other community groups. For questions call Joe Bertram III  298-3911 or write joeb3pathmaui.org@gmail.com   or Lucienne de Naie  214-0147.
