5/16/17  Don’t miss this one

4/30/17  #kihei

With the upcoming general membership meeting approaching on May 16, we remind everyone of our continuing never-ending food drive, strongly advocating for generous non-perishable donations or checks for the Maui Food Bank. Bring yours to next Tuesday’s meeting.

One of our most frequent presenters, Department of Public Works (DPW) Director David Goode has graciously agreed to come down the hill to help inform our community what is up with County (NOT State) roads and drainage in our area.

About a year ago his government involvement expanded as he was elected to chair the Maui Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) board (SEE: https://www.mauimpo.org/) in its inaugural year, and then recently reelected.

At times some of us seem to only think of DPW when driving on a bumpy road, or bicycling along a narrow disappearing “bike lane,” walking on that road with no sidewalk or when storm water floods it; or even when there is construction on it to mitigate some of these issues.

Less frequently do our thoughts go in that direction when a bike path is created, or a road is smooth or DPW crews are out at 3:00 AM Sunday fixing a problem. Likewise when funding is cut for an approved improvement project.

So we ask the community to examine both sides when KCA asks the Director about a wide spectrum of concerns which fall in his purview, and not why the Mokulele Highways was repaved (it’s a State road) or why the Maui Bus (DOT, not DPW) does not run more frequently.

Our general membership meeting, open to the community beyond our members for no charge, as always third Tuesday of the month (5/16) evening at 6:30 PM at 41 E Lipoa, the Kihei Charter Middle School.

Still not a member? You let it lapse? Just zip over to that red button on the home page to sign up. Mo betta: concerned about these issues? jump on that green button and apply for our planning committee. If you do not do it, who will?
