These fur babies need your help! Maui Humane Society has entered a Lifesaving Protocol Crisis Response as the shelter’s dog population has exceeded safe capacity. The organization is working urgently to find homes for dogs who face medical or behavioral challenges requiring long shelter stays. Any dogs who are not adopted or transferred by October 30, 2025, will be humanely euthanized. Community members are urged to consider fostering or adopting to save a life. Those interested can complete the at-risk dog interest form, and the Adoptions Team will follow up. More information about available pets can be found on the Maui Humane Society adoption page.

What started as 22 dogs is now just 5, but these animals are still at risk of humanely euthanized in just 9 days! Please consider adopting, fostering, reaching out to people and rescues that might be able to help on island and off. While this isn’t Kihei-specific, Maui is a small island and the Maui Humane Society serves everyone who lives here. I have personally rescued seven animals, three directly from MHS. Rescued animals take some time to adapt and train, but in the long run, they will change your life for the better. My three rescue dogs and four rescue cats have saved me as much as I’ve saved them. If you can help, please reach out to MHS today, these dogs are running out of time.
