On an overcaste Monday afternoon, Maui Outdoor President and Street Tree committee member Elaine Malina, and few other committee members, met with Mary Kielty and Kaeo Ah Sau of County Parks department to discuss a few additional problems with some of the trees, and to follow up on the prior meeting at same location for similar concerns.
Elaine, a trained professional arborist, complemented the department representives on numerous positive issues, but explained likely causes for trees which died as sapplings, and poor practices in handling a few trees, such as incorrect plantings and using wire supports incorrectly and for too long a period.
Mary graciously accepted the educated explanations as a way to help the department better care for the new trees in the new park.
