This evening (8/29/12) The Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs (DCCA) held a community meeting concerning the requested renewal of Oceanic Time Warner Cable (OTWC) Television Franchise. from 4:30 to 7:00 PM at the J Walter Cameron Center in Wailuku. Each attendee was asked to complete two surveys offering information on their experience dealing with OTWC with significant portion related to Akaku Community Television. The vast majority of testimony from the public we heard was almost unified support for Akaku and demands for stronger control on the cable company, not only to better support community TV, but to provide better all over service to our island community
The Association did not take a position (yet), but we must say our relationship with Akaku is outstanding from broadcasting most of the KCA community meetings, to partnering with us in events such as the just past Primary Election Forum. If you did not attend, we suggest you submit your comments no later than September 14,2012 either by email to cabletv@dcca.hawaii.gov , Fax (808) 586-2625 or mail DCCA-CATV P O Box 541 Honolulu, HI 96809
