Next General Membership Meeting on July 21 will be a candidate forum for County Council Races

Why is this forum only for races for candidates living in Upcountry, Wailuku and Kahului? Because these are the only ones that will be on the primary election ballot. In County contests, the two candidates who get the most votes in the the primary election move on to the general election in November. So contests that have less than 3 candidates filed do not appear on the primary ballot.

Why should South Maui voters be concerned with these three contests?  Because each of the nine members has an equal vote about all issues and matters County-wide. And because as a Maui resident you vote for candidates in all nine districts. If you leave all boxes empty in some districts, it counts as a blank vote.

Prior candidate forum for Council a decade ago

The resident member from West Maui has equal influence on Kihei issues as the South Maui one. So it is vital for voters to be informed about candidates for all nine Council positions. We bring forth as many candidates as possible at our forums, like this next one on July 19 with all contestants for all three districts on the primary ballot. Every candidate is invited and all participating receive an equal opportunity. After the primary election, we will provide an opportunity or two to meet the candidates for November’s general election.

 As with all KCA general membership meetings, membership is not required to attend, but is encouraged. Ask about our special introductory plan at the welcome desk, as you enter the theater.
