About eighty people filled the Whale Sanctuary Room for a well planned forum organized and presented by Maui Nui Marine Resource Council and Maui Tomorrow on flooding problems in Kihei. Attendees were grouped by their ahupua’a to discuss regional experiences and opinions of past flooding in South Maui, and a representative from each group orally presented the findings to the entire assembly. Mark Hyde facilitated, with able assistance from Lucienne Di Naie and numerous government agents in related fields, including DPW Director David Goode, Civil Defense’s Anna Foust, and Pam Pouge of the Water Department, who  answered inquiries and offered commentary to the group assembled. HIHWNMS and KCA were additional supporters of the forum. See the Maui Weekly for a comprehensive report of the event.
