At 630 PM on Tuesday evening, KCA president Char Schulenburg welcomed about 65 attendees at the Pro Arts Playhouse to the regular public general membership meeting with a brief series of announcements. One key one is the recurring information that a nominating committee has been established to begin the process of determining the 2025 Board of Directors. Interested applicants should complete and submit an application at https://gokihei.org/wp-content/uploads/2025-BOD-Application.pdf.
She then introduced the facility host Lin of Pro Arts to say a few words about the facility and some of the programs at https://proartsmaui.org/.
Next up was Lauren Armstrong , Senior Project Manager Brown and Caldwell Water resources and facilities, addressing what they are doing in conjunction with the County Water Department in an inspection of water lines.
Finally, Char introduced KCA Director Bob Schaberg to moderate the State Legislature candidate forum, the major segment of the meeting.
First up were the candidates for the South Maui Representative to the State House
The House candidates were up first with the standard opening introductory comments before responding to a series of questions pertaining to South Maui, followed by the Senate candidates, concluding the meeting at 8:00 PM.
The next meeting, our final candidate forum on Oct 15, will have the return to the Pro Arts of the candidates from South Maui and Upcountry who were victorious in the primary election, as well as the two candidates from Paia. If you missed this State forum on Tuesday, the recording is available right here.

I suggest moving the Kihei Community Association sign from the table to the wall in back and just above seated head height. That is something of a corner but a pole could be mounted catacorner and the sign suspended from that. With the sign on only one table the implication is a favored candidate or particular issue or at least an unbalanced photo op.
Alternately, for the two tables set up as in the above photo, the sign could be mounted catacorner between the two tables. This is a trivial issue but the purpose is to not appear to support one side over the other.
Mahalo for the suggestion Buck. We will see how the facility boss & the powers withing KCA can make adjustments
I can advise that some of the candidates & their supporters were very concerned about seating at the “KCA table”, so you are right on with perception
Aloha
