There is now an initiative to speed up the required transition away from cesspools in Maui Meadows for the sake of human and coral reef safety. The proposal involves the creation of a Community Facilities District and also government funding. For the proposal to take off, Maui Meadows residents must sign a petition for the Community Facilities District. Contact Caleb Harper <caleb.harper@protonmail.com> for more information.

I’ve always wondered about the cesspool situation in MM. This project will require a lot of work, some of it pretty disruptive (trenches, noise, digging, crossing property lines…….). It will be interesting to see how many of the good folks in MM step up to sign on to this much needed change. Those that choose not to sign on will each have good reason to not join in but in the end, cesspools are a big detriment to our island ecosystem and must go away. Hopefully this program will get off the ground, it will be a good thing for South Maui.
Go Kihei!!
