I was unable to attend the April 8th meeting re: High School roundabout and the NSCR… when i read about the meeting, and the community is in favor, I wrote to Marina that that is not so. My house sits on that path and I had a meeting with the planning group back in April about the NSCR and the issues surrounding it. We asked for an EIS study and updated Flood Zone Plan. We were told they would have it by July. Never happened. I emailed and called and never received a notice when it was ready or when a meeting would happen. Never received anything.
THe community of people it directly affects are vehemently opposed to it for safety and health reasons about all. We were also against the underground pass.
I just wrote a commentary in Nextdoor neighbor about what would be the simplest, safest solution for the crossing. So I will express it here. :
1st option Was there any consideration of a road from the back of the High School that would lead to Ohukai?
2nd Option: Keep the traffic lights at Kulanihakoi which was the safest solution to allow traffic to navigate across the 4 lanes.( cost to time, money and inconvenience to erect and now they have been taken down) Add a crosswalk which would eliminate bridges and tunnels. Ohukai has a traffic light and crosswalks as does Lipoa where the Charter School Kids cross daily. No problems at either place.
Why did the High School become so complicated and costly? Mahalo Gylian Solay, Malulani Street, Kihei…
