A bill introduced by South Maui region council member Kelly King passed the second and final reading this afternoon, which will prohibit sale of sunscreen products that are not mineral based.  KCA has championed such action for over five years after participating in a State government meeting and seeing a compelling presentation on the harmful effects of chemical based sunscreens.

Jeff Bagshaw bookended the entire process from his initial efforts at Ahihi Kina’u Reserve to educate visitors there to offering testimony at today’s Council meeting. We expect the Mayor to immediately sign the bill which will then take effect Oct 1, 2022.
