South Maui residents will have a convenient location to recycle old household items that may otherwise be considered trash, but that can actually be reused or recycled in an environmentally responsible way.
The Community Work Day (CWD) Road Crew and volunteers will accept scrap metal, bicycles, appliances, lawn mowers, cooking oil, cellular phones, household batteries, vehicle batteries, printer cartridges, computers, electronics, HI-5 recyclables, telephone books, magazines, used eye glasses, hearing aids, books, DVDs, clothing, and other household items. Motor oil, hazardous fluids, green waste, and vehicles will NOT be accepted; paper shredding will also not be available. Newspaper, cardboard, non HI-5 glass, plastic, and aluminum recyclables will be directed to the Redemption Center across the street.
Residents are also encouraged to bring a non-perishable food donation for Feed My Sheep, a unique mobile food distribution program for Maui families and individuals in need.
For more information on acceptable items, or if you would like to volunteer, contact CWD at 877-2524, email volunteer@cwdhawaii.org or visit http://www.cwdhawaii.org.
