1/14/21 #Kihei This morning at 9:00 am we joined in a ceremonial groundbreaking at the jobsite for the new high school mauka of the Pi’ilani Hwy. This one for the latest construction firm, Nordic PCL (NPCL), was actually the third such ceremony at the site. This one will probably seem more real to the community as building structures will commence.
For a number of reasons including the pandemic and the remoteness of the ceremony site, there were a limited number of guests so we were honored to be included. Sen Roz Baker, a very long time advocate at the legislature to insure the school was funded, was a speaker and we appreciated her acknowledgement of KCA’s long term advocacy. Likewise Kathleen Dimono, the Dept. of Education (DOE) Area Complex Superintendent, was the other speaker and she too offered accolades to KCA.
The DOE is still stating the school will open fall of 2022, but seeing up close what needs to be done, that seems to be yet another overly ambitious prediction. We would expect 2023 at best, but it is encouraging to know that they have an ambitious goal and it was a positive occasion overall.
