2/1/22 #kihei
In this election year, KCA has tentative forums set for our membership meetings (third Tuesday at 6:30 pm, as always) for May, July, September and an extra one in October. While KCA was incorporated before Maui elected its first Mayor or County Council, we are unsure when the first opportunity was for S. Maui residents to hear from candidates for these positions, but they have occurred in every election year this century. The structure of the meeting has varied, and in 2022 they will be virtual on-line meetings.
This year we also have our district State Senate and House elections, so with all of these offices and two elections, there is no way we can cover everything. As always we will do our best to hear the focus of S. Maui’s greater interest as a guide to selection.
For now we suggest all candidates and residents mark their calendars for these four dates for potential virtual participation. Once nominations close, we can begin to fine tune the May 17th meeting line up for the primary election in August.

This is in reference to your article on candidate forums. I remember as a kid, the political candidates travelled to the various towns and held rallies throughout the Island. The Kihei rally was held at the old Kihei theatre in the plantation camp and later on the porch/veranda of Kihei School. There would be musicians and dancers also on the agenda and that helped to draw a larger audience.
Thank you for all you continue to do for Kihei. Malama pono. Glenn
Mahalo Glenn. We well remember that there likely would not even be a KCA without postmaster John back in the day. We really appreciate this taste of Kihei history. Aloha
