While the KCA has advocated for street trees and urban forests for the betterment of our community, on occasion we see the action going in the wrong direction. When Kai Makani condo development was constructed less than five years ago, S Kihei Rd was modified to add parking places and a series of young trees were planted along the roadway fronting the project in each grassy “islet” between the spaces, and seem to be healthy and growing. But wait; what happen to that tree? As street trees are the responsibility of the County Parks Department, did they remove it? Did someone else do that? Is that legal? Will they replace it? Inquiring minds want to know.
