Last year the Maui County Council voted unanimously to oppose the addition of seven military telescopes on Haleakalā after overwhelming public opposition:

It is back anyway with a draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for public hearings, with one scheduled in Kīhei for February 17, 6:30-9:00pm at the Kihei Community Center.
