Next week – Wednesday, December 21, 5:30 pm at the Kihei Community Center (next to the Aquatic Center) – the South Maui Community Plan Advisory Committee will be meeting to discuss the transportation/mobility needs of South Maui. The Community Plan is to guide transportation development for the next 20 years. On 12/21 we will discuss policies to reduce traffic congestion and allow people to move around in many other ways, including walking, biking and public transportation. We will also have a presentation by Kumu Kaleikoa Ka‘eo, Associate Professor at UHMC, on some important context for South Maui planning.
Your testimony will have the most impact if it directly references proposed policies and actions that are to be discussed at the week’s meeting. The best way to ensure that is to submit written testimony by noon on a Monday for the specific topics of the week’s meeting to wearesouthmaui@mauicounty.gov. You can also testify in person. This week’s topics:
Kumu Kaleikoa Ka‘eo on the impact of colonialism on development in South Maui and his experiences of Kīhei past and present
2.1 Policies around transportation
4.1 Actions around transportation (if there is time)
