While our County voters overwhelming approved the Charter amendment on Nov 6, 2012 to move our Ocean Safety Officers (OSO’s) from the Parks and Recreation Department to Fire and Public Safety, as the bureaucratic process moves along to group “first responders” together in the same department, the officers at Kamaole I Beach started this new year doing the same job, rescuing and assisting ocean users. Strong trade winds and choppy seas caused some Stand Up Paddlers (SUP) off their board and into the water, and OSO’s made repeated runs on their boards to bring in numerous guys late Tuesday (1/1/13) morning.
