One more chance to help preserve that special area of South Maui

Makena is that place, and one segment of it, the “390 Acres” is about to be put within the Urban Growth Boundary” (UGB) via the County Council’s approval of the Maui Island Plan (MIP) this Friday (12/7/12) at 9:00 AM. But Councilmember Don Couch will present a “floor amendment” to remove the area from the UGB, but it will require massive community support in the form of written (send testimony to <county.clerk@co.maui.hi.us> by December 5th or before 9 AM 12/6 lastest),and oral testimony at 9:00 Am Friday at Council Chamber on 8th floor, to bring on the needed votes of support from the other Councilmembers.

I support your efforts to keep Makena to Makena and to keep the area free, open and out of the Urban Growth Boundary. The word Urban contradicts what this area is about…..

I very strongly support the efforts of Councilmember Don Couch and his floor amendment to remove the 390 Acres segment of Makena from the Urban Growth Boundary.

Please preserve this natural treasure from the lack of foresight for the value that it’s current state possesses, and the irredeemable loss that would be experienced if it is not protected.

Councilmemer Don Couch is to be respected for making his floor amendment to remove the 390 Acres segment of Makena from the Urban Growth Boundary. I appreciate and support his effort. Please join in with him. Keep this area out of urban growth.

At today?s Maui County Council meeting (12/7) many testifiers begged the Council to amend the Draft Maui Island Plan that came out of the General Plan Committee. A lot of excellent testimony was offered on many topics including the removal of the 390+ acres of Makena Resort Land from the Maui Island Plan’s Urban Growth Boundary.

The County Council recessed Friday (12/7/12) afternoon at 3:45 because they were losing a quorum. They did NOT begin any discussion on the Maui Island Plan.

The only item left on the agenda is the
Maui Island Plan, – first Reading. It will be taken up (without any public testimony) at 9 am on Monday morning, December 10. You can come, listen and send good vibes that Maui will not be overdeveloped. Or you can watch it all live on Akaku Channel 53, – and send your vibes long distance!!
