The Maui County Animal Coalition’s (MCAC) meeting on Tuesday (10/9/12) welcomed guest Sue Kiang, a supervisor of Maui County Parks and Recreation Department, for an update on the long awaited “off -leash” dog park program, at their monthly meeting in South Kihei. The Coalition is composed of fourteen animal welfare organization across our county’s three islands, formed at the beginning of 2012 to collaborate on helping Maui’s animals in need.
The good news delivered by Sue to the Coalition was the first such park had nearly completed construction at Keopuilani Park in Wailuku targeting to be open to the dogs by New Year’s Eve this year. Several of the Coalition’s members have signed up to be active volunteers for this first park, to help insure its success to foster additional parks liklly to be located in Kihei and Upcountry, IF this one is successful and mostly trouble free.
