While the community waits… and waits for the North South Collector Road (Liloa) across Kihei, or at least a bicycle strip in the corridor, the people make do to find a place to bicycle somewhat safely, away from motor vehicles, in the meantime. As Kihei experienced our first season rainstorm on Tuesday (2/7/12), we examined how well the path fared after the rain moved off. With the manini move of one board crossing the soft silt of the gulch between Kaonoulu and Kulanihakoi Streets (since back in place,) kids are still using the path.

Are there plans on the part of the County to remove the concrete barrier at the intersection of W Waipulani and Liloa in times of flooding and the barrier at the end of Namauu St. so residents of Hoonani and Namauu Sts who have been unable to leave their streets during the last two storms because of flooding and heavy mud, will have a way out in case of emergency or need to get to work?
KCA has no verifiable infomation about such plans. As it was a publically discussed campaign issue, we suggest you inquire of the Mayor’s office of your concern. email Mayors.Office@co.maui.hi.us or call 270-7855
