The KCA will be collaborating with South Maui Sustainability for a presentation and discussion of community gardens and other sustainability projects being planned for South Maui. The June 16th Community meeting begins with “talk story” and pupu, 6:00 p.m. at the Kihei Community Center.

Topics to be addressed include alternative energy, conservation and recycling. We will also discuss gardens: backyard gardens, hui gardens, school gardens, and community gardens. There will be presentations from guests Nio Kindla and Susan Wyche, followed by interactive discussion groups.

Come get inspired to grow your own food at home and in hui (neighbor) gardens, and learn about local school garden projects. Discover how Maui is using renewable energies to fuel our future and learn how you can take those first important steps to creating a more sustainable lifestyle through conservation. For those interested in collective gardening, SMS will invite residents to share ideas for locations, resources, and participants to help establish one or more community gardens in South Maui.

If you’ve been curious about or wanted to attend KCA meetings, meet some new neighbors, and support the growing projects of South Maui Sustainability, this is a wonderful opportunity.

Please join us! … and remember to bring some non-perishable food for the Maui Food Bank.
