The County Council’s General Plan Committee on Thursday (10/18/12) denied our request to leave the 390 acres near Makena Resort’s Golf Course out of South Maui’s Urban Growth Boundaries in the Maui Island Plan. This committee voted in June to include the 390 acres after the proposal to not include this area was stalled. Councilmember Don Couch made the motion to remove the 390 acres from the map as KCA had requested, but with Council Chair Danny Mateo absent, the vote was split 4 to 4 meaning it failed, so the 390 acres is still included in the Urban Growth Boundary. Committee Chair Baisa was joined by Councilmember Victorino, Pontinella and White who all voted against it and the wishes of our Association.
