Why is it such a challenge to walk or bicycle safely across South Maui, with the flat terrain and pleasant weather? If you must drive, can you do it without polluting the air and causing the continuing, unending need for imported oil. These are some of the matters to be discussed at this month’s community meeting on Sep. 18 at 6:30 PM, at the Kihei Charter School, 41 East Lipoa as we welcome back Public Works Director David Goode, accompanied by resident Rich Brunner, and Christine Andrews of Maui EVA (Electrical Vehicle Alliance. )
Ms Andrews wiil offer a presentation about the effects of all electric cars on Maui, and if you arrive early she may let you examine (drive???) her Nissan Leaf. Rich Brunner will offer a brief talk about his decade long attempt to aquire a “Safe Routes to School ” grant for an area of South Kihei, while Director Goode will address progress for making South Maui a safer bikeable and walkable community with close examination of the Waipuilani bike route set for 2013.
KCA President Jon Miller will announce the newly named chart of the BOD nominating committee, who will begin the process on intervewing potential 2013 KCA BOD members.
Doors open at 6:00 PM for pupu and talk story, and we request non perishable food donations for the Maui Food Bank. Not yet a member or need to renew? Check in with Patricia at the entrance. Call ( 508) 499-9996.
