Crashes, endless lines, total chaos when the third lane of the roundabout opened this morning (both lanes southbound, one lane northbound). See for yourself:

Who is in charge of this project “The Pi’ilani Roundabout” so we can start a campaign to get the person FIRED ! I sat in traffic from Maui Meadows to Ohukai Road for an hour and half two afternoons in a row.
All State transportation matters are under the charge of the Hi State Department of Transportation (HDOT) The Director is Edwin Sniffen. Best of luck with your campaign.
The tongue-in-cheek of this post is clearly by an engineer, who only cares about the ‘efficiency’ of the roundabout, with absolutely no concern to the safety. Right now it’s not really operating as a true roundabout and when it does, it WILL be chaos and unfortunately will result in accidents – hopefully not fatalities.
Nope, sorry no engineer involved. Since day one KCA has stated safety in the # 1 concern Expect it is safe to say any intersection with major traffic flow will have collisions, almost always caused by driver error, but the chance for fatalities is greatly reduced at a modern roundabout compared to a signalized intersection. Reducing speed reduces severity of collisions & chances of fatalities. No T bones the most deadly kind of collision The true danger of this intersection is the arrogant actions of State agencies refusing to build the required GSPC forcing all peds, cyclists, skateboarders etc to cross the roadway with only a yield signal
