About 50 observers heard Maui’s new Police Chief Gary Yabuta explain his plans for our island under his realm with a power point presentation, and then responded to questions, before Denise Laitinen of “Firewise Communities Hawaii” offered ways to lessen the danger of wildfire dangers for residents at the Kihei Community Association’s July meeting. Unfortunately we collected the smallest canned food donation for Maui Food Bank in several years. Please see next week’s Maui Weekly for a full professional report on this meeting.

If you want to express your opinion about proposed changes to our south Maui parks concerning prohibition of alcohol consumption and smoking tobacco products, as well as restrictions on commercial operations, be sure to be at the August 18 community meeting when KCA will ask for your concerns to be delivered to our county government officials. And please remember to bring some canned food for our food bank. Mahalo.
