7/18/24 #kihei #elections
The general membership meeting on Tuesday evening at the Pro Arts Playhouse started off 15 minutes ahead of schedule with an intro by our host, the facility’s head honcho Lin, and then Kihei Community Association Director Bob Schaberg commenced this first 2024 candidate forum by announcing that one of the three candidates for the Upcountry residency spot, Jocelyn Cruz, would not be present, due to a flight delay. Thus we were left with five of the six Council candidates who will appear on the August 1o Primary Election ballot, three who reside in South Maui, but just two of the three who do so Upcountry. Attendees who were still arriving for the scheduled 6:30 PM start were puzzled by the empty chair on stage with her name placard before it.
The remaining five were each offered the opportunity for a five minute opening comment, commencing with Edward Codelia (Upcountry) followed by Johnny Probes (South Maui), then the other three alternating between residencies.
Moderator then Bob began quizzing each of them on issues raised in their opening statements, for a lively and sometimes contentious debate. You can watch the video of the entire meeting on the Kihei Community Association website: https://gokihei.org/featured/first-2024-kca-candidate-forum-is-july-16-at-630-pm-at-pro-arts-playhouse.
The next meeting will be AUGUST 20. yes, that is an even month, so this is a special meeting beyond the required assemblies of the membership every other month, Watch for details soon.
