This week signs were posted on Ka’ono’ulu and Waipulani Roads at the location where they will intersect with the NEW Liloa Drive extension (or the North South Collector Road). The SMA application was filed in September and the Department of Planning has determined it is complete for processing.

Today the NEPA EA was made available for a 30 day public review/comment.

“After the 30 day public comment period, comments will be reviewed and an errata to the NEPA EA may be developed. The FHWA will then determine if the NEPA document can continue the Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI). After the FONSI is issued, the cash offer letters to the landowners for the temporary rights-of-entry, easement, and/or acquisition can proceed.”

The Notice of NEPA EA Availability is available on the project website and will be published in the Maui News today.

It is very exciting to see progress on this long awaited, critical road through Kihei. When will construction begin? It’s still a few years away.
