8/22/15 Yes, government spending taxpayers’ $4000 ++ per resident is important.
The Maui County fiscal year budget runs from July 1 to June 30 of the following year. The current 2016 FY budget is over $620 Million. So we are in the beginning stages of the new budget here in August. But get ready, next month, September, the Arakawa Administration has scheduled public hearings for the 2017 FY budget, which takes effect July 1, 2016!
The meetings are to receive comments and suggestions, which may be delivered in writing or orally by individuals or organizations. on ways to best spend the money, and how much should be allocated for specific entities. Ultimately, the Mayor and his team will make their final decision, and present the FY 2017 budget to the Council next year Then the Council’s Budget and Finance Committee will have hundreds of meetings, while the legislative branch will address almost nothing else for months, until their final edition is set to present to the full Council in May for final approval, & Council sends the package back to the mayor. Whew!
The South Maui Administration’s meeting will be held at the Community Center beginning at 5:30 PM on September 16, 2015.
