For years now, since 2016, I hAVE BEEN HEARING THEY ARE PLANNING TO REPAVE MUCH OF KIHEI. I DO SEE THEM DO SUBDIVISION ROADS LIKE P2 AND P3 WHICH ARE BARELY 10 YRS OLD AND LOW TRAFFIC AND ALSO MAUI MEADOWS WHICH WAS ALSO LOW TRAFFIC AND NOT IN MUCH NEED OF REPAIR. HOW ABOUT ONE OF THE MOST TRAVELLED ROADS ON THE ISLAND, SOUTH KIHEI ROAD? DRIVING THIS ROAD YOU NEED TO DODGE THE POTHOLES. ANY THOUGHT ON THIS?
Mahalo for contacting KCA. As you may be aware we have no authority to “make” the county government do anything, but we can advocate as a community voice. The more members, the louder the voice, so our chances of accomplishing more are strongly influenced by community participation but we still allow anyone to express their opinion on our website. even if they chose not to support KCA with membership
As far as we understand, money has been allocated , and winning construction bids have been awarded, and some preliminary prep work already underway to pave Lipoa, Waipuilani, Welakahao and Kulanihakoi between SKR and the Highway. In fact it looks like Welakahao may begin paving next week. Also the portion of SKR between Yee’s farm and Kulanihakoi is also set to be repaved in the first quarter of 2019.
Our suggestion would be to contact the new Mayor & ask him to include $$$ in the 2020 budget he is developing now to further pave SKR from Kulanihakoi to the next through street, Kaonoulu while the refurbished Maui Lu is under construction, to coincide with their required improvement on that road fronting their property.
