Once again, North Kihei is flooded

1/16/24 This morning,  once again, SKR was closed between NKR and Kulanihako’i due to renewed mud flooding. Kaonoulu was finally open last Saturday after several days of closure at SKR, but closed again  now with the surrounding infrastructure.

1/15/24   This afternoon, just North of the Whale Sanctuary, this beached boat was being demolished, seemingly in an effort to remove it

Heavy equipment was brought to the shore line to begin to dismantle this beached boat

Much of the top of the vessel has been removed

Once again the heavy rain yesterday closed several segments of South Kihei Road with a combination of floodwater, mud and eroded roadway.

Wednesday afternoon (1/10) Kaonoulu remains closed at SKR, as DPW clears muck from the area that did not flow into the kai

For decades this intersection has experienced this same condition The mess is removed, but there is no mitigation to prevent it from occurring repeatedly

Nearshore waters are brown again
