Two pairs of Nene flew overhead and landed into La’ie Wetlands this morning.

This pair landed in the mangrove and swam in the muliwai before hanging out on the embankment at Aloha Aku end – where they have not been reported as seen before.

Now where are the La’ie Wetlands? Makai of South Kihei Road, South of St. Teresa’s Church. This is part of the maybe 25 acres left of what used to be hundreds in Kihei.

Wetlands play an essential role in slowing down and filtering stormwater from mauka. Losing them means considerably more pollution flowing into the ocean and also more flooding in residential and business areas.
