This afternoon our committee took part in a site visit on ranch land mauka of the high school. We commend the ranch family owners for a long term outreach with KCA going back at least to the beginning of this century, maybe before.

Wendy Rice Peterson of Kaonoulu Ranch and Haleakala Ranch President Scott Meidell with Senior V.P. of Real Estate and Land Management, Luke Estes, directed our group over a wide spectrum of land between the Waipuilani stream and north of Ohukai Rd. at various elevation levels. At some point in the future they expect to sell segments of the area to a developer for needed community housing.

We agree on the dire need for housing for residents but insist infrastructure needs to be in place, especially transportation, such as long discussed Pi’ilani Mauka bypass road connecting to the Mokulele (Maui Veterans) Highway.
