Along the North South Collector Road (NSCR) undeveloped corridor, just South of Kulanihako’i, we encounter  these piles of dried out cut foliage this afternoon.

It is obvious someone cut it down and left it here, surrounded by housing developments both mauka . & makai

You see the asphalt pathway frequently used by the community for walking & cycling. What would it take for one careless or maybe malicious act to create  a spark here???

It is apparent from the  parched condition that this has been here for several days, maybe weeks. We have no way to know who cut it & dumped it here, but it seems it was growing in this area. We expect whether  the County Administration did the cutting, they are responsible for removing it,

As is clear in these pictures we see old wooden utility polls strung with power lines. We are well aware the part fallen lines & collapsed wood poles played in the 2023 wildfires, so viewing these just above this dried brush offers even more concern. Part of the NSCR building plan calls for hurricane resistant metal replacements. We advocated for undergrounding the lines.

When the NSCR is FINALLY opened here (2027?), this continuous potential danger will be removed. Months ago there was a brush fire just South of here, across the Waipuilani Stream Gulch, burning perimeter fencing around homes, and a few years  ago on July 4, homes were lost as illegal fireworks created a brush fire which spread to the nearby houses.
