As we had advised the community earlier this month – SEE https://gokihei.org/environment/dlnr-industrial-and-business-park-in-our-district-public-meeting-this-month-in-kihei – last evening the State Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) with assistance from the contracted agent Munekiyo and Hiraga (M&H) offered a preliminary public presentation of their proposed Industrial and Business Park near the edge of our south Maui District in the vicinity of the national Guard Armory mauka of the Mokulele Highway.
About 25 guys were in attendance, including South Maui legislators, State Senator Roz Baker and County Councillor Kelly King.
The project is a proposed light industrial and commercial business park at Pulehunui in central Maui on 280 acres of DLNR state owned land that had been leased to A&B for their now closed sugar plantation. The proposed project will include small, medium, and large lots envisioned to be utilized for light industrial, commercial, nonprofit, and public/quasi-public uses, along with necessary infrastructure.
The lease revenue generated at this location will support management of public lands, and support for DLNR divisions, including the Commission on Water Resource Management, Division of Forestry and Wildlife, Division of State Parks, Office of Conservation and Coastal Lands, Engineering Division, and Land Division.
After the shared presentation by DLNR & M & H, the floor was open to questions and comments. KCA spoke in general support of the project, which is several years away from potential fruition.
