Over the years, a depth of up to 10 feet upcountry sediment has filled sections of the Kulanihako’i gulch (near Kaonoulu St) in North Kihei. This week, dump trucks are starting to take that away, with as many as 200 trucks a day. This fertile soil will be used at a variety of sites.

This project will be done in three stages and could take 6 months to complete. Topographical maps indicate the plans for temporary siltation basin near S. Kihei road.

The Natural Resources Conservation Service will cover three-quarters of the costs for the project, which has a budget of more than $3.3 million

We want to thank the County for investigating and approving an emergency project to remove the sediment filling our gulch
