Your Association and much of the community has attended several meeting over the past few years presented by Maui Electric (MECO) concerning a proposed projected cross Kihei transmission line from the Maalaea Power plant to a transformer station across from Kamaili School in South Kihei. The last meeting was 9/3/13 see https://www.gokihei.org/?s=MECO&submit=Search for info on this and several preceding meetings.

This morning (4/10/14) Energy Commissioner Doug McLeod and Energy Coordinator Kal Kobayashi from Maui County discussed with our Planning Committee why the Administration opposes construction of this line.

One of the startling statistics presented was Maui County was LAST of the neighbor islands on renewal energy, as we expect most of the community thought we were first. They advise while Maui is at 30%, Kauai is at 40% and the Big Island leads with 50%.
