UPDATE 2/26/15 We followed up the Alliance meeting last evening to observe the MBL’s own monthly meeting held in Maalaea at the PWF education center, where the trio of players from Monday night expanded by four others including Ceal Potts via Skype from the Caribbean. KCA will attempt to support their efforts to make out Island home more bicycle friendly, as KCA has advocated for decades for our area.
Last evening’s (2/23/15) meeting of the Alliance of Maui Community Associations was KCA strong, with three directors present at the Kaunoa Senior Center “behind” the Kahului Airport. Beginning at 6:00, the meeting included representatives of several other Community Associations, and welcomed guests Kyle Ginoza, Director of County Environmental Management, and a team from Maui Bicycle League, (MBL) http://mauibike.org/ ; Saman Dias, Lee Chamberlain and Kawika Blummer (hope we got names correctly).
Ginoza offer a brief description of the department, including the two divisions, water and solid waste,and went on to more specifics, the issue of sustainability, recycling, including the trial (now ceased) “3 can plan” injection wells and Energia project..
The remaining 47 minutes were for the MBL with Chamberlain offering an introduction of the newly formed non profit, http://mauibike.org/ fostering making Maui Island more bicycle friendly following the 5 “e’s”, Encouragement, Educating , Evaluation, Engineering and Enforcement, through 3 committees, Advocacy and Policy – Chair Lee Chamberlain, Education and Safety – Chair Daniel Rezac, and Membership and Fundraiser/events- Chair Ceal Potts
The next Alliance meeting is set for 3/23/15 at 6:00 PM
