These poles are completely unacceptable! The ones in Kahului were added since I’ve lived on Maui, and they ruin the view of Iao Valley. This is the 21st Century — there HAS to be an alternative. The beauty of Maui is not expendable.
If we can’t afford to go underground, we can’t afford the project. I have a vision of Kihei as a beautiful seaside town with walkable communities and picturesque, environmentally friendly parks. I see a place that we are proud to call home and that others want to visit. That is what will build our economy today and moving into the future. We should be burying the electrical lines we have and not building more.
Mahalo for the supportive input Kathy. In addition we are questioning, as reported in the Star Advertisor, why some power lines in Honolulu are being run underground right now for “island beautification,” and are mostly paid for with federal funding.
