We agree that So Kihei Rd in No Kihei has a limited life. Combining erosion, sea level rise and storm water flooding, it is just a matter of time Wil the key missing segments of the Collector Rd be opened before that?
Always informative! Could not attend in person – no car! Bob Weltman is a repository of information, but when he speaks at the meeting – he talks too fast (looking down) & too low (making him hard to hear). I hope you see this as a constructive comment, as he is a major benefit to South Maui and the Community Planning group he chaired did such an amazing job! As someone who listened to the speakers online, who could not turn my volume up any higher, I just wanted to give back constructive feedback with my appreciation to KCA folks for making these meetings possible! I hope to be able to sign up for the ‘South Maui Voice Team” (hope the sign-up will be online). Thanks again for all the KCA contributions!!! Judi

A friend suggested my husband and I go on this tour and it was terrific! We spend a few months a year here and Keith told us many things we did not know about Kihei. How nice it is to have this accessible to anyone for no cost! Thanks again!
Glad you enjoyed it, but KCA is not any part of this program. We just reported on it for community service Aloha
Did the Ledcor project in Wailea get a Public hearing in S. Kihei? They are approving projects without our public hearing? That’s a priority!
They did have one back Dec 15 2022 up in the Kihei R & T Park for the EIS, which was at the Maui Planning Commission this afternoon. A KCA committee met with them in 2019 and in 2020.
Rooted is an amazing organization! I was proud to witness the progress to make the Waipuilani Beach Preserve beautiful again.
How can others in the community attend these events in the future? (Also, when was this event?)
I learned a lot from this article, mahalo
That sounds like a terrible idea! It seems like a serious misstep feeling a hotel right across the street from a school and next door to a nursing facility. Seriously out of place. I thought that area would be improved and utilized for residents.
Some 15+ years ago the Nursing and Rehab center was advertised online as being built as part of the EB5 investor visa program. All references to that disappeared over the years, and as you said, it sadly remains mysteriously empty and unused. Such a waste of those investors’ dollars. I do wonder if those investors ever did get their EB5 visas, or if it was an epic fail or scam.
That’s absolutely not true. There are plenty of qualified people to work there. There is some other reason. I’ve called and asked them and they say they don’t know when or if it will ever open. Something is awry!
Mahalo. We too have been concerned for years. Thus we participated in the Maui Planning Commission to try to expand the conversation by testifying, even though the specific topic was about the vacant lot next to this facility. May we ask with whom you spoke?
Likely a funding and alignment issue. To sufficiently raise the crossing, the approach on both sides would be a long slope that would result in a lot of changes and work to all the businesses and surrounding facilities. The cost would have been orders of magnitude greater.
Way too many street lights! “Complete Streets” engineering seems to over-light everything! Screws up the viewing of the night skies, and is not good for bird navigation. Had the same problem in Tahoe – looked like an airplane runway – they finally reduced, but already spent the $$$. They need to put an environmentalist in the Engineering/Street Dept!
The budget needs some way to deal with the homeless people loitering and camping out in the areas around St.Theresa’s Church due to their meal service. They are blocking the sidewalks with debris and their bodies causing fear among the residents and making it unsafe and unhygienic conditions. The recipients of the meals must be allowed to stay on St.Theresa property at all times instead of loitering day and night in the neighborhood surrounding the church while waiting for the meals. The meal service could be provided at various alternate locations such as other churches or community meeting places. Meal service at the church every night has become a huge problem for the neighborhood. The Times Market has lost customers due to the fear and disturbance of the loiterers. There is a Change.Org petiition about this problem “St.Theresa Church Must Fix Loitering Due to Meal Service”.
Aloha auinala kākou, I’m unable to make the meeting this evening but if someone could convey my message I would appreciate it. I’d like to see all of our pedestrian crosswalks painting with fresh paint in Kihei and have the blinking lights installed like we have on our newer ones. At dusk a lot of folks are walking back mauka from the makai side of S. Kihei Rd. and it’s very hard to see them. I feel like this is an easy way to prevent accidents with pedestrians. Adding sidewalk from Mcdonald’s to Maui Sunset would help tremendously.
Also need to widen Pi’ilani Hwy to four lanes. During the tsunami evacuation thousands of folks were stuck trying to evacuate. mahalo
You do have a membership Chairman. Therefore, utilize them to reach out to the community regarding voting and why that’s important! Education and information is the key! You have activities thru the years?? Keep them informed. !
