The US government has partially shut down effective October 1st. Due to the shutdown, federally-run businesses and agencies may be closed or have limited hours/services until further notice. Places in South Maui that may be affected include the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary and the Department of Motor Vehicles. Try calling ahead or check official websites before making the trip.

Island-wide, federal agencies such as the Social Security Administration in Wailuku will be impacted. Their online services are available, while in-person services are limited. Haleakalā National Park will remain as accessible as possible during the federal government shutdown. However, some services may be limited or unavailable.
