Several hundred show up for “Cane Burning; You have a right to Clear Air.”.
The community center big room was choke, the parking lot overflowing and after waiting about 15 minutes to commence, still having guys pouring in, Terez Amato kicked of the meeting, wisely deciding there was no point in any more delay.
On Thursday (6/18/15), she explaining the parameters for the evening, and proceeded to introduce Alika Atay for a Pule, followed by his opening comments. He was superseded by a series of others, each extolling on the negative effects of cane smoke: Trinette Fertado, Susan Douglas, Kihei Elementary educators Rachel and Kimmie, Maui attorney Lance Collins, Lorin Pang, M.D., Joe Ritter Ph D., Sen Josh Green, M.D. from Kona, and Tina Wildberger..
We believe she was the final presenter, but we had to depart at this point.
While there were several camera recording the meeting, we were unable to locate a Maui News writer, and with no article in last 2 days, it appears they chose not to cover this event.
However if you subscribe to Livestream ( or are willing to sign up,) you can view the tape of the meeting at http://livestream.com/accounts/4834005/events/4154877.
While the vast majority attending agreed with the presented materials, there was a small minority, spearheaded by about 15 guys with H C & S T shirts, who seemed very skeptical.
