On May 13 at 6:00 PM, The Hawaii Department of Transportaton (HDOT) travels to Kihei
This is the Hawaii Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP).and it is responsible for establishing a comprehensive, multi-modal statewide transportation planning process; for developing a balanced, multi-modal statewide transportation plan; and for providing technical assistance to the counties in fulfilling their respective roles in the process. See http://hidot.hawaii.gov/administration/stp-2/
In simpler terms this provides a list of transportation projects, and for a project to have a chance of going forward, whether a State DOT one, such as a mauka Pi’ilani Highway bypass, or a County DPW one, like the infamous N-S Collector Rd, it must be on the STIP listing. Next, the higher up on the list, the better chance of coming to fruition, at least in theory. HDOT ia having a series of meetings all around the county
So if you have a transportation project you think is important to your community, this is your chance to speak up for it. Head to the Kihei Elementary School Caf on Lipoa at corner of Pi’ilani Hwy on Tuesday evening May 13 at 6:00 PM.
