Three plots of land (see TMK’s in 2 photos) in the Kulanihakoi River gulch in N. Kihei, mauka of South Kihei Rd. (SKR), have had changes in ownership in this century, the most recent purchase by developer Peter Savio of Honolulu. Prior to this purchase, he purchased similar land in the Waipuilani River gulch, also just mauka of SKR near Ho’onani. Both of these locations logically repeatedly flood and overflow because of the natural environment.
After each purchase, we noted heavy equipment was brought onto the lands performing what looked to us like grubbing and grading. While we suspected illegal actions were happening at the site south of Kaonoulu, we now have confirmation from county that the work was being performed without the required permits as the county has posted violation notices for the three Kulanihakoi gulch properties.
We suspect the same type of illegal activity is going on at the Waipuilani site, at the mauka end of Ho’onani.
This flooding is located just makai of the Villas at KENOLIO. The complex is located ON Kaonoulu, but that is not the correct name shown in the photo
They are totally doing the same thing at the Hoonani property. (TMK 2 3-9-001:007) They have cleared so much land that we live in a permanent dust cloud now, they do not water it unless someone complains to the county and then they send out a truck that kicks up more dirt than it is watering. They also tore down large trees after the May 15th deadline that said they could not remove trees during the Hoary native bat nesting season. They kept saying they were making a fire break, but I have lived here for over 45 years and have seen what a fire break looks like. This is not it, they have obviously paved the areas where the streets would go in the subdivision. All this without a heating and grubbing permit. They have also left giant piles of trees and debris that would be very dangerous if a flood came. We complained multiple times to the county to no avail.
I THINK WE NEED BETTER COUNTY REPRESENTATION IN KIHEI! CURRENT COUNCIL REP SEEMS TO BE BUSY WITH BIOFUEL.
Are you aware the our S Maui Council rep announced long ago she was not running for reelection?
Are you aware of the 3 branches of government and what the administratin does as opposed to the legislature?
